We have permission code request forms or links to the pages for the codes for the following departments:
EDU (UITE Coursework)
Note that you may need to scroll towards the bottom of the page for the following areas:
If you can't find the permission code request form that you are looking for here, please reach out to that department's homepage.
Permission Code forms are available on our website on the first day of student registration according to the Academic Calendar. This is the date next to "Registration Dates begin". Students should note that your individual registration date will vary and may not be the same as other students. To see when your registration date is please use the directions below. More information can be found on the Office of the Registrar's website for Registration Dates.
Your permission code may not be working for a few reasons. Before reaching out to UITE, please verify the following information:
Permission codes are issued 72 hours after you request them (note that no codes will be issued on weekends and holidays), pending a USBE Background Check verification that UITE completes with the USBE. This verification can sometimes take a little longer.
All fieldwork classes (classes that have you out in the schools for class completion) will require that you complete your USBE Background Check. Please see the directions at: https://uite.utah.edu/students/background-check/ for more information about the USBE Background Check. Permission codes will not be issued to students who do not have a cleared USBE Background Check.
If you are unsure if your class requires field work, please:
All permission codes are sent to students umail accounts. If you requested a permission code and you haven't received it yet, please check your umail for your permission code or to receive more information. Students are reminded that all official University correspondence is through umail even if you link your personal email to your umail. You are responsible for checking your umail and being aware of the information sent to your umail.
Students who have not completed the prerequisites for a class may not be issued a permission code for class unless special permission is given by the UITE Advisor. Students should be reaching out to UITE regarding permission codes, not instructors as instructors will not have the information regarding your USBE Background Check.
If you have an issue with your permission code, please first check the steps in the tab, "Why isn't my permission code working?". If those steps do not solve the issue, please reach out to Kristen Lindsay, kristen.lindsay@utah.edu.
No student can register for a class without a verified USIMS screen shot of their USBE Background Check Clearance and a permission code. Old CACTUS screenshots from myuen will not be accepted.
To verify that your background check is on record with the USBE, locate your CACTUS Number, and provide proof of your USBE Background Check for permission codes, please follow the directions found here. Note that your name and CACTUS ID number must appear on the screen shot you submit. Screenshots without that information present will be rejected and you must complete a new screenshot. Your permission code will not be issued if your name is not showing on the screen shot.
While a cleared background check is required to receive a permission code, students may request a permission code at any time. It may take a week for USIMS to update after you've received your fingerprint clearance. USIMS are programs supported by the USBE. The UITE does not have any access or control to update student USIMS records.
Students should note that priority for some courses may be given to students needing the course to proceed into their licensure year.
