COC offers students three main paths - certificates, associate degrees and transfer preparation - that lead to successful completion of their educational goals. These paths are not exclusive. Students can earn a certificate, an Associate Degree and transfer to a four-year university/college. For a quick introduction to each path, please watch our Programs for Credit video. To learn more about college's educational opportunities, including the different types of certificates and associate degrees available; how long it may take to complete each option; how many units are needed; and the type of courses you will need to enroll in, we encourage you to view the below videos.
If you are considering transferring to a four-year college/university, you may do so with or without an associate degree. The community college system also offers unique transfer programs with California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) that can provide priority consideration or guaranteed admission. For a brief explanation of transfer support programs, please view our Educational Opportunities handout. We also encourage you to view the below videos to learn more about transfer preparation.

How much will it cost? All colleges/universities have a Cost of Attendance (Student College Budget) that estimates expenses for tuition, books and supplies, room and board, transportation, and personal expenses. This is also used when calculating financial need. Tuition will also vary depending on residency status - California resident or Non-California resident. For California residents: College of the Canyons tuition: $46.00/unit, plus mandatory college fees The average cost for tuition and fees for a full - time student (enrolled in 12 units) for the fall and spring semesters is $1,160. The average cost for books and supplies for a full - time student (enrolled in 12 units) for the fall and spring semesters is $1,125. There are many options to help reduce the cost of textbooks, such as renting textbooks instead of purchasing them, or enrolling in a course that utilizes Open Educational Resources (OER) or Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) which provides a student with FREE online resources or digital textbook. When can I become a student?Semester/term start dates:
Applying is easy and FREE! You must begin by submitting a college application for the semester/term plan attending, for example Fall 2024. After your application is submitted, you will receive an Admission Acceptance email with important information including how to activate your CanyonsID login information. The next step is to submit your financial aid application (FAFSA/CA Dream Act). We encourage all students to apply for financial aid to see what you may be eligible for. Your FAFSA application is processed within a few days, but it will take several weeks to determine if you are eligible for an award package. To complete the admission process, students will complete the assessment & advisement modules online. This step determines your placement for English and math, and begins the process of developing your first semester educational plan. After you have completed the modules, you can complete the orientation that is designed to provide you with information about college procedures, programs, support services and policies. Visit the New Student Checklist for a step-by-step guide to completing the admission process.
